New Zealand’s Sean Herbert has claimed bronze at the first-ever Formula Wing World Championships in Cagliari, Sardinia. Competing against the world’s best in challenging, shifting winds, Herbert showed calm precision and consistent speed to secure a spot on the podium.
The final day saw a dramatic twist - wind shifts forced a last-minute format change and a tense, winner-takes-all race. France’s Mathis Ghio took gold, Italy’s Francesco Cappuzzo silver, and Herbert proudly brought home bronze for New Zealand.
At just 23, Herbert continues to prove himself as one of the world’s leading wingfoil riders - and a major force in the fast-evolving world of foiling.
A nail-biting finale at the first-ever Formula Wing World Championship in Cagliari
From Sean
"This event was a true test of my character, with plenty of ups and down throughout the week. Starting the week in 8th and climbing the leaderboard, it felt like two steps forward, one step back sometimes.
Medal Series was my opportunity to put out a performance I knew I was capable of all week. I am proud to have executed that and step back on to the podium here in Sardinia. After moving through the Quarters, winning the Semis and winning Finals race one, I challenged the other riders till the end."
